Google Introduces Screen Sharing and Live Video for Gemini Live

Google has unveiled new screen-sharing and live video features for Gemini Live, its response to ChatGPT’s voice mode. These updates allow users to share their screens with Gemini and receive real-time assistance based on what’s displayed.
During a presentation at Mobile World Congress, Google demonstrated the “Share screen with Live” button within the Gemini mobile app. A user tapped the button, activated Gemini, and asked for fashion advice based on an image of jeans on their screen. The AI engaged in a back-and-forth conversation before suggesting complementary clothing items.
Another demonstration showcased the live video sharing feature. By selecting the Live button in voice mode, users accessed an interface with a camera option. Enabling the camera allowed them to show Gemini their surroundings and ask questions—mimicking a video call interaction with the AI assistant.
These features are part of Project Astra, Google’s multimodal AI assistant capable of recognizing its environment and engaging in dynamic conversations. Initially teased at Google I/O in May, the technology demonstrated its ability to identify objects and respond intelligently through voice interactions.
While parts of Astra were expected to launch last year, Google has delayed the rollout by a few months. The screen-sharing and live video capabilities for Gemini Live will now be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android later this month. Visitors at MWC in Barcelona can experience the new features firsthand at Android Avenue between Halls 2 and 3.
Beyond Astra, Google is reportedly developing another Gemini-powered feature for Chrome called Project Jarvis. According to The Information, Jarvis is designed to learn users’ web-based habits and automate routine online tasks.
