Just ahead of Mobile World Congress, Samsung has unveiled several new Galaxy A-series smartphones aimed at the budget-friendly market. While the $299 Galaxy A26 and $399 Galaxy A36 were already introduced, the $499 Galaxy A56 made its first in-person appearance at the event.

The A56 shares many similarities with its siblings, featuring a 6.7-inch display, a 5,000mAh battery, a 50MP main camera, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. However, it stands out with its 12MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro camera, and 12MP front-facing camera. Another notable upgrade is its 45W fast charging capability.

A Premium Feel in Hand

The Galaxy A56 offers a surprisingly premium feel with its metal frame and Samsung’s signature “glasstic” material on the back. The edges of the frame are slightly sharp where they meet the front and rear panels, but the metal finish adds a stylish touch. The device comes in multiple colors, though only the Olive green variant was available for viewing.

The back panel is smooth and reflective, mimicking the look of glass. The camera module features a vertical triple-lens setup encased in a chrome-bordered pill shape, with the flash positioned separately. Overall, the design is clean and modern.

Display and Performance

For its price, the A56 delivers an impressive display. It boasts a resolution of 2,340 by 1,080 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, ensuring sharp text and vivid colors.

In terms of performance, the phone operates smoothly with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While there wasn’t an opportunity to test its Galaxy AI features, general navigation felt fast and responsive.

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy A56 will launch later this year. At $499, it could be an appealing alternative to the $599 Apple iPhone 16e, offering a larger display, faster charging, and solid overall specs at a lower price point.
